Frequently Asked Questions

Will it hurt, is waxing painful?

Just a little, it can be uncomfortable but nothing you can’t handle. there are lots of reasons your wax may feel more uncomfortable on some occasions; hormones, lack of quality sleep, being run down, hungover, stressed, dehydrated, illness/medication, etc.

When waxing is carried out by someone who is skilled and uses quality wax. You will find waxing is very tolerable and not even as bad as you think it may be, we will do our best to ensure your wax is as comfortable and quick as possible

What Should I expect during the appointment?

Prior to your appointment taking place there will be a pre-waxing consultation to complete. This allows us, to check if waxing is safe & suitable for you. It is important you are honest when completing the consultation because the information you provide allows us to adapt your treatment if required.

If you are a new client, your therapist will briefly talk through the waxing process and what to expect.

After your wax is complete you will be provided with aftercare advice. You can book your future appointment in clinic or via the online booking system.

How long does the hair need to be for waxing?

A minimum of three / four-week regrowth from the last form of hair removal. We get that it’s difficult to let the hair grow but we need hair to wax. If you come with less than the minimum hair growth we require then simply we cannot wax you, we want you to have a great experience and great results. Believe us, the results will be more than worth it!

Can my hair be too long for waxing?

Never. If we feel your hair is on the longer side, then we will trim it for you so please put down the scissors!

How often should I get waxed?

If you’re a newbie to waxing, we recommend visiting every four weeks for the first few months. This will help you get into a good waxing routine with hair cycles that are in sync. It will also take a few treatments to catch all of your hairs from the root, so that eventually we distort the follicle making it harder for the hair to grow back. Eventually you’ll notice your hair getting finer and a lot sparser from regular waxing sessions.

Can I shave between waxes?

If you’re serious about waxing then we strongly discourage you from shaving in between waxes, leave any trimming, plucking and maintenance to the professionals. You’ll undue all of your hard work.

Can I be waxed during my period?

Yes. It is absolutely fine and sometimes it’s unavoidable.

All we ask is that your hygiene is impeccable and you wear a fresh tampon for your treatment. We always have supplies in our salon toilet in case you’re caught short.

If you can only wear pads, we advise that you schedule your wax for when you’re not on your period.

Can I keep my underwear on for intimate waxing?

For a basic bikini and extended French bikini, you can keep your underwear on if you wish please ensure the underwear can stretch out of the area and its not anything fancy, as we use after wax oil residue may transfer.

For Hollywood, Brazilian and Extended French bikini with buttocks, it’s pants off! They just get in the way and slow us down – it’s easier and faster if you don’t wear any.

Please also note we do not offer modesty towels, your welcome to bring your own if required.

Is waxing embarrassing?

We understand that if you haven’t been waxed with us before there can be an element of fear of unknown. But believe us when we say there is nothing we haven’t seen and nothing we haven’t been asked.

Our aim is to make you feel as comfortable as possible and to make your waxing experience as quick, efficient and pain free as possible. The full treatment will be explained to you in the room before we start so that you feel totally comfortable and understand the process.

How do I look after my skin between waxing sessions and prevent ingrown hairs?

Ingrown hairs occur when the hair can’t get out of the skin properly. This could be from dead skin cells, on the skin blocking it or wearing tight underwear or clothing where the pressure prevents the weak hair breaking through the skin. The best way to treat and prevent them is with gentle exfoliation and moisturising.

Can I get waxed if I have body piercings?

Of course if the jewellery can be removed its easier this way! Although if the jewellery cannot be removed we can work around it, in most cases. Please let us know if you have hidden piercings in intimate areas to ensure your waxed safely.

I’ve had waxing before and it was a horrible experience, I’m feeling nervous

It’s understandable if you’ve had a bad waxing experience elsewhere but be rest assured we take great care and consideration in ensuring your appointment with us is comfortable, dignified and relaxed. We believe that no matter who you choose at Strip Bare for your wax you will be in safe hands, you’ll be converted back to waxing with a smile on your face.

Can I get waxed and use sunbeds?

NO, Not only are sunbeds not good for your skin, heat and heat do not mix, it can cause extra irritation or discomfort applying hot wax to skin that is compromised after being belted with those UV rays. Potentially it can cause skin lifting and grazing. We won't wax you if you have been on a sunbed in the past 7 days.

I’m going on holiday and need waxing

You can have a wax just before your holiday but you need to be made aware; if you’ve not had waxing before or haven’t been waxed in some time then having just one wax before your holiday won’t give you the results you want. Hair growth growing in different stages to those waxed at that one appointment will come through a few days later. You won’t be silky smooth for weeks after just one wax but you will certainly have better results from one wax than from if you were shaving. It’s a good idea to plan ahead and book in 3 waxes before your holiday in order to get the hair into a synchronised growth cycle which in turn will give you longer lasting results.

Can I bring someone along to my appointment with me?

Please where possible come to your appointments alone the salon is not a place for small children or pets. We kindly ask that those only receiving treatments be present in the waiting area to prevent overcrowding. If you require a carer to be with you during the appointment, please contact us first to make sure we can accommodate this as not all our rooms have the space to accommodate more than the person receiving treatments and our therapist.
While we understand this may not suit everyone, this policy has been put in place to ensure all clients enjoy their experience at the salon, it was created with safety in mind.
We greatly appreciated your compliance with this.

Our Hygiene Policy

Please arrive clean for your appointment; shower on the day of the appointment but if you are coming straight from work it’s not a problem, we can provide you with a freshen-up wipe to use.

We take Hygiene seriously and want to protect you and ourselves therefore we always wear disposable gloves (vinyl or nitrile) for each client. Handwashing facilities are available and alcohol gel is also available to use.

Our treatment beds and chairs are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after each client. The bin is changed between clients. We do not ‘double dip’ the spatula back into the wax once it’s made contact with your skin meaning a spatula that has touched the skin never goes back into the wax pot. Tweezers and other tools are thoroughly sanitised between each client.

The salon is kept clean at all times and undergoes a regular deep clean.

When waxing is contra indicated

If you are currently taking/have taken Isotretinoin (brand name Roaccutane/Accutane), or oral/Intravenous corticosteroids. Please contact us to discuss if your suitable for treatment, as some antibiotics can cause severe skin reactions and hypersensitivity. The above medications temporarily weaken the skin, which makes it unsafe to wax.
